Common Uses
Promethazine is an antihistamine, antiallergic, sedative, hypnotic, antiemetic, local anaesthetic medicine. It works by blocking H1 receptors in blood. Promethazine is used to treat allergy symptoms such as allergic rhinitis, itchy skin rashes, hives, and allergic reactions on food or medicines. The doctor may prescribe Promethazine for   prevent motion sickness and vomiting or pain after surgery. Sometimes Promethazine is also used as a sedative or sleep aid medicine.

How to Take
The doctor will give you the instructions how to take Promethazine. Do not change the dose without doctor consultation or continue the treatment course longer than needed. Usually Promethazine is used after meal, with plenty of water. For adults the recommended dose is 12.5-25 mg 3-4 times a day. To prevent vomiting 12.5-25 mg every 4-6 hours and motion sickness 12.5-25 mg at once before 1 hour before trip. The recommended dose for children prescribed by doctor. Usually the dose very from 10-20 mg to prevent motion sickness and 12.5-25 mg or 0.5mg per 1 kilo of body mass for other treatment.     

Warning and Precautions

Missed Dose
If your doctor gave you strict instructions not to miss dose and if you missed one take the missed dose as soon as you remembered. If it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue taking you medicine regularly. Do not double the medicine. It can cause severe side effects.

Overdose
If you think you take too much of Promethazine, visit you local doctor of poison center as soon as possible. If your condition gets worse you need hospitalization immediately. The overdose symptoms may be: drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, large pupils, flushing, nausea, vomiting, shallow breathing, and fainting.

Storage
Store Promethazine in tightly closed container, Promethazine came in. Keep Promethazine away from pets and children. Store it at room temperature, away from light, heat and moisture. Do not store Promethazine in the bathroom.

Possible Side Effects
